Last week the Black Lips headlined the Mojave tent at Coachella, and as per usual when the Black Lips have the spotlight they take advantage of it. This time by torching their guitars and for a grand finale smashing them to bits and then offering the rock n roll eucharist to the audience. Pure Black Lips magic. Check out the youtube footage here.
On May 13 Rhapsody will be releasing an exclusive Live EP. Check back here to get it as soon as its available.
Chromeo went and did it again. Not like we had any doubt, but Chromeo delivered the hottest video we've ever seen. Something they happen to have a knack for. Watch the video here.
Bloc Party will be returning to the US this summer for at least 8 shows. And one of them is with Radiohead. Rules.

Finally! Dark Meat's Universal Indians Expanded Edition will hits store shelves and digital catalogues everywhere tomorrow. Kaloo kalay! Make sure you check out the Southern 17-piece psychedelic rock collective in you town this Spring. And to Celebrate the release we're offering up a yet another new track from the album as a free download...
Anthem Online is pleased to present you the worldwide premiere of Zune Arts' latest video, a collaboration between Three Legged Legs and Chromeo.
The film features the Montreal duo's "Fancy Footwork" hit and some
pretty spectacular zombie puppet animation. The creepy yet comical
near-life-size creations mark the film studio's first attempt at
puppetry, and we think it's a pretty solid one at that! The resultant
clip is a "flawless musical thriller" that we only want to see more of.
Catch some behind-the-scenes action by subscribing to the Zune Arts podcast or bouncing over to this page.
Get ready folks. Dark Meat is coming in a big green 1970's bus and they're playing TWO shows in Brooklyn next week. Check off your calendars next Monday and Tuesday because you now have plans. If you can't make it to the kick off show at Union Hall (702 Union St. Brooklyn) on Monday April 7, then you have to make it to the Union Pool show on Tuesday April 8 for the official record release show! We'll all be there and so should you.

Just when we were started to really miss the crap out of our favorite Norwegians they shine a beacon of hope to us in America. They'll be making a stop in Coachella and then show in New York on April 28 at the Mercury Lounge.
Finally, we get to see what happens when you put Jack White and Cole Alexander in the same room together. The Raconteurs are taking the Black Lips out on tour as the main supporting act. This will no doubt get very very interesting. Photos of the mayhem to come.

Here's three of the four of the Black Lips playing a set of individual
numbers for Blogotech's Take-Away Show series
in Seattle last week. The first one's a Gaye Blades number, the second
we're pretty sure is not an actual song (although the phrase "I want a
fucking a-rab to get a real nice racial dick" has been bouncing around
in our head since we first watched this), and the final piece is from
the last album. There's also a full-band version of "Everybody's Doing
It" if you snoop around the site a little. What? Fine, it's here.
Chromeo will be hitting up almost every major summer festival this year. With appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and All Points West. So if you haven't seen the dancefunk duo yet this year, you have no excuses. Make your road trip plans now!
Chromeo recently performed twice in Austin at SXSW and further solidified their legendary live show with a massively entertaining set at Stubb's BBQ for an audience of 3000. Check out the SXSW Fader interview here.
Beatport has announced their 2008 nominees, and Chromeo needs your vote to win. Register and vote here.
Finally, Zune Arts is making a video featuring Fancy Footwork. And based on this behind the scenes look, it's going to be amazing!
That's right - zombie puppets. We'll let you know when the video is finished. It's going to be a monster.
Tonight the Raveonettes are set to perform on the Late Show with David Letterman. In case you won't be home and you don't have a Tivo, you can rewatch their performance here. Also, Yahoo! has selected The Black Lips for an online death match royale. The band with the most votes wins - so head over to Yahoo!'s Who's Next and help the Black Lips crush the competition.
Hot on the heals of the US release of Lust Lust Lust on February 19, The Raveonettes will be touring North America. Which, has us looking forward to spring even more than before. It's cold. Really cold.

The influential, mysterious, and often secretive Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo of Daft Punk when they take some time with Scion Radio to elaborate on their career, their film Daft Punk's Electroma, and art in general. This interview offers exclusive insight into the minds of Daft Punk, a valuable glimpse behind the masks of one of the most iconic groups of this decade.
And when you get tired of listening to the interview over and over and over (like getting tired of that is possible) then head on down to screening near you.

Like with most fan clubs by signing up you can get offers for music and tickets way before the rest of the lame's out there. But more importantly is the insanely huge community of rabid fans that are always posting images of shows, discussing music, and meeting other fans. So if you're not already a member click here and act like you always have been.
Remember how Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire totally made Jarvis Cocker's career? It brought him out of complete obscurity and made him into a star. We're hoping that the new film "Let It Be" produced by Andrew Meyer (Fried Green Tomatoes, The Breakfast Club) and staring the Lips, will immortalize their place in rock n' roll history. The film begins production in May of 2008, and rest assured we'll keep you updated.
In other Black Lips news, you can scroll on over to Viva-Radio and check out a session the Lips did a little while back to talk about Dunwoody High School and the state of jock fashion.
Also, to everyone's surprise the boys are going to do a few more shows while they have some time off. It's like a Black Lips version of Sherman's March through the South. Make sure to check them out as the TAKE THE SOUTH BACK!

Munich, Germany - To a packed crowd at the Olympiahalle Justice confidently took home the MTV Europe Video of The Year award for an unprecedented back to back win. Kanye was noticeably absent while the award was handed over as was any kind of liquor fueled concession speech. Dailymotion has the proceedings posted here so you can watch Justice accept the award uninterrupted. Congratulations boys on your 2nd Video of The Year award!
On October 31st, Vice and EA are teaming up to throw a rager of a Halloween Party in San Francisco. To celebrate our favorite holiday and the release of EA's appropriately themed Hellgate, we'll all be putting on our best disguises and heading down to Fat City in downtown SF to party with 700 of our closest friends and an open bar. With a soundtrack provided by DJs Omar (popscene) and Franki Chan (iheartcomix) and a live performance by Chromeo at midnight, this one is sure to add a new chapter to San Francisco's storied Halloween party tradition. Click here to RSVP
Hot damn! Chromeo got together with their friend Nima Nourizadeh and made one amazing video for Bonafide Lovin'. Its a total tribute to the Dire Straights "Money For Nothing" one of the best and most recognizable videos ever made. Back when MTV still played videos this one was a staple for sure. So check it out and let us know what you think about their latest video masterpiece.
There is a benefit exhibit going up on October 26th for the band featured in Heavy Metal Baghdad, Acrassicauda. Featuring the works of over 30 photographers, it's going to be an amazing gathering of works from some of our favorite picture takers. If you live in Montreal, check out the flier and RSVP and if you live elsewhere in the world and want some amazing photographs for a good cause, check out the photo web site for more info.
When the Black Lips first starting sending in music of the new stuff they were working on, one of the immediate favorite was "Veni Vidi Vici." It's just so sexy and different from what you'd expect to come from the mind of Cole Alexander. For some reason listening to this song makes us want to wear tassles. So it makes sense that when shifting through new songs to remix, Diplo would settle on this guy. NME premiered the track today, click over and see how he sexed up the track even more.
Chromeo just wrapped up a week of funkified MTV 52/52, "Tenderoni" has been added to the MTV rotation and we just finished a week of Chromeo Jaxxy takeover and we're just beginning. On October 17, Chromeo will be taking the stage Justice tore up to show Kimmel how to look sharp and lead the audience in their own brand of rump-shaking dance. Wanna party? Party here.
The perfect Halloween? If you think, excellent excuse to dress up and get down, have we got the party for you. Tuesday, October 30 will see Chromeo take over a church and turn it into a hall of ass shaking. Dan Deacon and Kudu are along for the ride and there are tickets available now. There's an all night open bar if you feel like drinking and our favorite kind of prizes awarded for a pre-show scavenger hunt and costume contest. The money kind of prize. So seriously. If you're in NYC and you feel like dancing and dressing up, we've got the party for you.
It's with heavy hearts we report that Panthers had a substantial amount of gear stolen - in Canada of all places. Between a broken window, a forced missed gig in Toronto and a tragic loss of amazing gear, the fellas have fallen on some serious hard times. If you have ANY info on any gear or shady characters in Montreal, please email wassup@vicerecords.com. Here's the run down from the band:
missed the show in toronto yesterday cause we didnt get there in time and they wouldnt let us play. but we had to file a police report and check pawn shops and try to get the window fixed. so yeah lost 300 on what we would get paid. and you know how expensive hotels are in canada. and the window is going to cost us 200 bucks. and as you know our budget was tight as hell already so it is a real fucking bummer. not to mention all the shit......but anyways not to drag on. here is the list
1 Fender Mustang custom guitar with P90 and mini humbucker pickups. Dark green/black with gold trim and has one star on front of body.
1 Boss DS 1 pedal
1 Boss Chromatic Tuner pedal
1 Frantone Peach fuzz pedal
1 Ibanez Weeping Demon wah pedal
1 Nikon D50 digital camera
1 Ludwig SupraPhonic Hand Hammered 402 Snare
1 Tama Grand Star Custom floor tom. 15 by 12. Red
1 Lumix Digital Camera
1 80 G grey ipod
so yeah. sucks. but we are going to keep trucking on. maybe put out a donation jar. "help we lost 5000 worth of gear. help us not be broke."
Lucky you, Vancouver, Black Lips are coming to town. Tonight they play Richard's on Richards but this afternoon they are doing a free instore OUTside of the store at 5pm at Red Cat AND the halal butcher shop next door is going to have a kebab cart for the kids! Meat on a spicket and the Black Lips. Vancouver, who could ask for anything more? If you're that demanding, check out the Black Lips' Canadian tour diary over at Exclaim! Not too shabby.
Now, we were pretty excited when we saw the opening graphic card with "Black Lips" on the Conan background, and when O'Brien introed the band saying "I love the music guest tonight...they're great," we got a little giddy, but when he held up that pretty vinyl and the boys launched into their rousing live rendition of "O Katrina!" we just about burst with pride. You can stream the entire episode for a month here (show aired October 9 for those not keeping score) and if you want to skip right to the good stuff, it's the second to last tick on the player around the 35 minute mark. And an enterprising youngster put a clip up on YouTube. Watch now and watch often.
mtvU, the arm of MTV that still rejoices in playing music videos has a little "contest" each week for favorite new videos called the Freshmen and Black Lips' "Cold Hands" is in the running. Up against Hezekiah, the Winter Sounds, Schoolyard Heroes and the "I’d still fuck that one" Pipettes, "Cold Hands" sounds like it could beat any of those guys up on a playground - but will it be so lucky on the interweb? Go vote for "Cold Hands" over at mtvU and keep the Black Lips on top. The winning video actually makes it on air - if "Cold Hands" looks that good on your computer screen, imagine the wonder of watching it on a real actual TV.
Panthers are on the road on the rock juggernaut that is the High on Fire tour. Along the way the fellas did a turn at Fuel TV and power housed through "Uncertainly" and "Goblin City." Tonight those throat grabbers will air on "The Daily Habit," Fuel TV's daily series of rad music which will play tonight, October 3 at 9pm EST, again at midnight and then tomorrow at 2:30pm and 5:30pm. Set the TiVo and get ready to rumble.
AOL has this little thing called the Interface. It's a pretty sweet feature/podcast where they have bands come in, play acoustic versions of their songs and do an interview. Wanna hear what "Lock & Key," "Bad Kids" and "How Do You Tell A Child Someone Has Died," sound like coming from wooden guitars? Here ya go. After the set, Joe slicked back his hair and interviewed Cole. Who knew the boys had such a hard-on for Edward Elgar? Check out all the madness over at the Interface.
What a Chromeo week we've got for you. Let us count the reasons why this week is going to slay.
1. Today begins Chromeo's funkification of MTV's 52/52. That's right. In between temper tantrums and uncomfortably bare emotions, MTV has started running music clips again! If you hit MTV.com you'll see the handsome faces of Dave and P. If you're watching the new episode of The Hills, you just might see Chromeo at the end of the show. Check out a choice clip of the fellas doing Bonafied Lovin' on top of a bus in Times Square.
2. It's Chromeo Jaxxy take over week. Every day this week we'll be throwing up an MP3 of an exclusive Chromeo remix. Get it here and get down.
3. Tomorrow Chromeo is releasing a brand spankin new EP on iTunes. It's going to be chock full of remixes and new love from Chromeo.
If you live in Austin, Seattle or San Diego come on down to some of our favorite record stores for free Black Lips jams before the balls out night shows.
For the show in Detroit tomorrow night at the Magic Stick Harley-Davidsons' hopped on board to make the show even crazier than your usual Black Lips show. If you're old enough to drink booze, there's an open bar from 8-10pm and the burly people at Harley-Davidson will be doing a special giveaway. Like, a real special giveaway that you can vroom off on. It's going to be a time, so if you're Detroit-inclined, get ready for your Tuesday night to feel like a Saturday.
Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." has been nominated for another MTV award - this time on the world wide wow. mtvU.com's Woodie Award nominees have been announced and "D.A.N.C.E." has been nominated for the Best Video Woodies. Justice is up against Say Anything, TVOTR, RJD2 and Motion City Soundtrack - stiff competition, but a field full of gentlemen from what we can tell. So get over and vote for Truth, Justice and the "D.A.N.C.E." way. You'll be glad you did. Democracy feels great. Justice will also be on the boob tube on October 9 on Kimmel. Set your TiVo and get ready for a French Spectacle to rival the storming of the Bastille.
Black Lips aren't your average band, so if we're doing an instore, we have to switch it up a bit. When Black Lips come to NYC, after they slay Bowery, they'll be swinging by Sound Fix before the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Here's the party line:
The Black Lips Circus and Bad Kids Parade at Sound Fix Come on down and join in the revelry at the Black Lips Circus at Sound Fix in Williamsburg (110 Bedford Ave Brooklyn, NY), Wednesday September 19 at 7:00 PM. What is the Black Lips Circus? You'll have to come to Sound Fix and find out. But keep in mind, it's the Black Lips we're talking about here.... Afterward, lace up your deck shoes for a rollicking trip up Bedford Ave as the band leads the Bad Kids Parade to the brand new Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 North Sixth St Brooklyn, NY) , where the Black Lips will truly christen Brooklyn's newest venue with their unparalleled rock stylings. And wear costumes. It's a circus, dress up for the occasion.
Today's the day! Black Lips'Good Bad Not Evil has arrived. For the momentous occasion, Black Lips are doing a special show at MJQ in Atlanta TONIGHT. How do you get into the show? Well, it's easy. Head on over to Criminal Records today, get a spiff-tastic DVD of Black Lips Live in Israel which you can't get your paws on anywhere else, and get the secret handshake invite to the show on tonight (as long as you're over 21). There will be CDs available as your ticket in at MJQ tonight, but why would you risk it? Head down to Criminal and pick up the gem and get ready for the show.
Joe, Ian and Cole went over to 99x this morning, chatted and played an acoustic version of "Bad Kids." If you weren't up at 9:30 you can download the segment as an MP3 here.
Acrassicauda is a band that used to call Baghdad home. They play some gnarly heavy metal, love Metallica and Sabbath and seem like pretty cool guys. In their six years as a band they have only managed to play 6 concerts in Baghdad. The war has now all but destroyed their dream to live in peace, grow their hair long, bang their heads and play metal as loud as they want. They currently reside as refugees in Damascus, Syria, and all of their visa applications to foreign countries have been denied. VICE Films and VBS.tv have made a movie about them called Heavy Metal in Baghdad and it's premiering this week at the Toronto Film Festival. It's a pretty amazing film that the many hands of VICE have been involved with since 2003. There will be much heard about this film in the coming months, but check out the trailer, check out their MySpace, explore the site and meet Acrassicauda.
Chromeo's here to prove that festivals aren't just for the summertime. On September 29, Chromeo will be headlining the Neighborhood Festival in LA while whipping all the fashionable kids into a frenzy with The Faint, Spank Rock, A Track, Kid Sister and a bunch more dance inducers. On November 10, Chromeo will be headed down to Miami for the Bang Music Festival. Kanye might have bum rushed the stage when Justice was on it, but we're hoping he'll be all about sharing with our purveyors of "Tenderoni," Smashing Pumpkins and the Bravery.
Winning the 2006 video of the year award at the MTV Europe Music Awards seemed like a pretty solid accomplishment for a couple of underground French DJs, but 007 has been the year of Justice, "D.A.N.C.E." and showdown #2 between Justice and Kanye videos as was witnessed in Vegas this weekend. Although Rihanna's ubiquitous "Umberella" took the trophy home, if you sat through the two hour ceremony you no doubt heard Justice's music bumping amidst the fist fights. Not to shabby.
Favourite Sons' Down Beside Your Beauty is an anthemic, emotional, sweeping pumper of a record and the new video for "Tear the Room Apart" is no different. It's a gorgeously shot video directed by Eric Tu full of symbolism, feeling and beauty. Head over to Favourite Sons' MySpace page to see "Tear the Room Apart" as well as videos for "Pistols & Girls," "You're the Beat in My Heart," and "Pretty Young Blood."
Pitchfork has declared Good Bad Not Evil, out next Tuesday, September 11, to be some of the "Best New Music" they've heard in a while. Check out the niceness they've got for the fellas:
Good Bad Not Evil, however, is the record where naysayers, disinterested friends and acquaintances, and anyone else within earshot has to sit up, shut up, and listen. The "garage rock" tag will perpetually follow this band, and while I'm not saying it isn't sometimes apt, there's a difference between being a revival act and seeming blissfully out of time.
To that we say, "duh" and "we knew it all along" and "thanks." Check out the review and stream the whole record this week over at AOL and if you live in Atlanta, get down to Criminal Records and get your ticket to the release day show.
The Black Lips' newest opus, Good Bad Not Evil which you can stream in its entirety over at MySpace this week, comes out September 11. For the momentous occasion, Black Lips are doing a special show at MJQ in Atlanta. How do you get into the show? Well, it's easy. Starting Tuesday, September 4, Good Bad Not Evil will be available for pre-order at ye olde Criminal Records. If you truck down early to pre-order the record, you not only get a spiff-tastic DVD of Black Lips Live in Israel which you can't get your paws on anywhere else, but you get the secret handshake invite to the show on September 11. Assuming the show doesn't sell out before release date, there will be CDs available as your ticket in at MJQ on the day of the show, but why would you risk it? Oh, and you only get the DVD if you pre-order or buy at Criminal on release date. So if you've got nothing to do on Tuesday during your lunch break besides sneak a couple of pints, head down to Criminal and pre-order that gem and get ready for the show.
